About Souzou
Souzou is one part garden design studio that specializes in container gardens, Japanese garden design and indoor "plant-scapes", one part art gallery and one part retail mix of industrial and natural products.

As an artist I have always been drawn to the ironic beauty of our natural world and how it relates to and interacts with our man made world. When I lived in San Francisco, I worked in Oakland and took the train through the industrial part of Oakland everyday. The buildings, many boarded up and falling into the ground created great open air sculptures for new seeds to grow up, around and into. My favorite image that I saw as I looked out the train window, was that of a railroad track terminating in a pile of railroad ties with a shell of a building behind that- all had been there decaying for a decade or two, and there growing up in front of the pile, in the middle of the track was a huge sunflower all alone.

Many of my designs or design sensibility comes from that one image or nature's simplicity among man made and naturally made "sculpture". It is the interest in such juxtapositions that has lead me to studying-on my own-the concepts of Japanese gardening and small urban landscape design.

I am also working on creating indoor living walls and garden systems as well and tabletop planters and moss rugs products that I hope to have available by late fall early winter of 2009.
